About τριετίες & Greek Wages

As of January 1, 2024, the τριετίες (three-year periods) system has been reinstated in Greece after being suspended since February 14, 2012. This system provides wage increases based on years of employment experience.

Key points about τριετίες:

  • Only employment periods before February 14, 2012, and after January 1, 2024, count toward your τριετίες.
  • The period between February 14, 2012, and December 31, 2023, does NOT count.
  • For office workers: 10% salary increase for each τριετία (up to 3 τριετίες, maximum 30%).
  • For technical workers: 5% increase for each τριετία (up to 6 τριετίες, maximum 30%).

Greek salary components:

  • Basic salary: The primary component of your wage.
  • EFKA contributions: Employee (13.37%) and employer (21.79%) social security contributions.
  • Income tax: Progressive rate starting at 9% for income up to €10,000/year.
  • Additional payments: Christmas bonus (1 month), Easter bonus (½ month), and vacation bonus (½ month).
  • Family status: Tax deductions for children and special benefits depend on your marital status and number of children.

Current minimum wage (May 2025):

  • Monthly: €880 gross (approximately €740-780 net)
  • Daily: €39.30 gross
  • Government plan: Increase to €950 gross by 2027
